Immersive Whiteboard Collaborative System

چکیده
An immersive whiteboard system is presented where users at multiple locations can communicate with each other. The system features a virtual environment with vivid avatars, stroke compression and streaming technology to effectively deliver stroke data across meeting participants, friendly human interaction and navigation, virtual and physical whiteboard. The whiteboard is both a physical platform for our input/output interfaces and a virtual screen for sharing common multimedia. It is this whiteboard correspondence that allows the user to physically write on the virtual whiteboard. In addition to drawing on the shared virtual board, the immersive whiteboard in our setup permits users to control the application menus, insert multimedia objects into the world, and navigate around the virtual environment. By integrating multimedia objects and avatar representations into an immersive environment, we provide the users with a more transparent medium so that they feel as if they are communicating and interacting face-to-face. The whiteboard efficiently pulls all the collaboration technologies together. The goal of this collaborative system is to provide a convenient environment for participants to interact with each other and support collaborative applications such as instant messaging, distance learning and conferenc-

Extending IOS's Collaboration via Web-Enabled Whiteboards
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the development of a web-based asynchronous whiteboard system used as part of an online collaborative system. The whiteboard system has been designed to perform in a manner similar to that of threaded newsgroup systems; users can post new whiteboard messages and reply to others via a content layering mechanism. As part of the whiteboard’s development, we ...
متن کاملDevelopment of Collaborative Learning Support System Using a Shared Whiteboard
We have developed a shared whiteboard system for collaborative learning on the Internet. The system enables learners to make diagrams of the discussion with nodes and arcs. They can put their statements and graphics on the diagrams to represent thoughts more easily. In addition, the record of operations of the shared whiteboard system helps the learners grasp the flow of the discussion. The lea...
متن کاملThe Effects of Collaboration and System Transparency on CIVE Usage: An Empirical Study and Model
We present an empirical study in which we investigated group vs. individual performance with collaborative information visualization environments (CIVEs), the effects of system transparency on users’ performance and the effects of different collaborative settings on CIVE usage. Subjects searched for findings with CIVEs, working either alone, in a collocated dyad using a shared electronic whiteb...

CSCW; in this setting computers can provide the same type of collaborative information that people have in face-to-face interactions, such as communication by object manipulation, voice and gesture [1]. Work on the DIVE project [2], GreenSpace [3] and other fully immersive multi-participant virtual environments has shown that collaborative work is indeed intuitive in such surroundings. However ...
متن کاملThinking with Erasable Ink: Ad-hoc Whiteboard Use in Collaborative Design
Our work uses interactive workspace capture technology to investigate the hows and whys of whiteboard use in collaborative design environments. By showing excerpts from data collected in two collaborative design settings, we describe how collaborators use whiteboards in an opportunistic, task-oriented fashion. We illustrate the patterns collaborators follow in their interactions with the whiteb...
